Aldbrough, East Riding of Yorkshire

I remember going to Aldbrough on bike rides when I was young; I also remember the large car park and the cafe at the cliff top. Sadly, these have been washed into the sea due to coastal erosion. Little did I know then that part of my family originated there.

My Elliott family originated in Aldbrough, as did the Foster members of the family who married into it. Although many were born in Aldbrough, they worked on the farms in the area, and more probably Garton with Grimston, where quite a few of my Elliott family members were born.

I bought this old postcard of Aldbrough at a local history fair; date unknown. I think St Bartholomew's church is in the distance, so the photo could possibly have been taken along the main street.
