Sunk Island

Sunk Island seems to be the key area for my Elliott's . Nearly all Elliott's, since the mid-1850s, were either born, lived, worked or died here and are buried in the churchyard. All seem to be linked to Sunk Island. My grandmother, Eva Elliott, met my grandfather Arthur Messingham, whilst both worked at Old Hall Farm. Eva lived in as an indoor servant, and Arthur was employed as a waggoner.

Sunk Island is a unique area of Holderness. It can be reached by travelling along the A1033 Hull to Withernsea Road, detouring off in Ottringham.
