| The Hunters are well established in the tiny village of
Halsham, East Yorkshire, many of which are buried in the local churchyard.
William Hunter married Nancy in 1839. He is recorded as the licencee
of the Stag Inn, Halsham in 1871 and was succeeded by Nancy on his death,
and after her death by their son John. After John and Isabella's death,
their son Albert Hunter became licencee. |
| Nancy's maiden name took quite a long and
very frustrating effort, but after a lot of searching at the East Riding
Archives, I came up with two possible babies, called Nancy, born in
the estimated year. Although I knew the year when William and Nancy
married I could not find the actual entry. I searched in Ottringham,
Halsham, Patrington, without any luck. Then, on one of the genealogy
sites I use, I found the entry for William Hunter's marriage. It was
only after I sent for a copy of the marriage certificate that I found
her surname to be 'Briglin' (although the Parish Register records the
family name to be 'Brigland.' All other entries for the family are recorded
as Briglin. This discovery has since led to a new 'branch' being added
as the Briglins lived in Hollym, Owthorne, Ottringham, Patrington and
Withernsea. |
